About

My name is Nikki, I have 3 kids under the age of 9. Bizzy, Bubba and Bug. We also have 2 dogs, an Olde English Bulldogge, Morgan, and a bulldog/beagle (a beabull if you will) named Jax. My husband and I have been married for 10 years, and I am 32. Eek!

Me and the minions on the annual apple picking trip this one is from 2012 but I love it because Bug still has a baby face

I have a long and varied work history. My first job was as a cashier at Cinnabon at age 15. I worked there all through school and while working other jobs and left as a bakery manager 6 years later. I also worked at a jewelry store, on a Navy base, as an EMT and an Orthopedic Tech. Most recently I used to run a cupcake/cake pop business that began as a hobby, evolved into a full time occupation that became an all encompassing career. I eventually had to “retire”. I could not manage a full time business, 3 young people and my family’s sanity at the same time. (As a semi-recovering control freak perfection enthusiast, I refused to hire any help). I do, however, still love to bake and do so quite often. I picked up a lot of tips and tricks along my baking journey and look forward to making your baking life easier. Don’t we all need to hit that easy button as often as possible? You can check out my cupcake cred here. As you can see I’ve always been torn between the culinary and medical fields. I’m now a mom, so I guess that is really the true melding of both!

I love yoga and Pilates. I try to live, and raise my family as healthy as possible, while still enjoying food and managing my addiction to cheese and carbs. (Do they make a 12 step program for cheese?) I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan (even living in San Diego). If we’re being honest; I’m an obnoxious football fan and will scream at the TV with the best of them. I watch every game. This past Fall my four-year old was known to randomly yell, “where’s the flag?!” and “throw the ball Ben!” (you Steelers fans understand). I felt copious amounts of parental pride. I’m also a Hockey fan, but I’m a little more lame on this front and only watch playoff hockey, and only really when my favorite teams, the Penguins and the Ducks, are playing. My husband calls that a “paper fan”. I kind of agree but don’t tell him that.

Hubs surprised me with a trip back to Pittsburgh. He had planned it for months and yes, when it came down to it we were in the middle of closing on our house. It was still an awesome trip and this was my favorite part aside from seeing family of course. My team came back and won the game and I got to see it in person in the rain. Double Renegade. Yinz know what I mean.

We are newly second-time homeowners and are doing lots of projects to create the home we want. Lucky for me, and our bank account, my husband is quite handy and does the majority of the projects himself.

Yep, thats 9 tons of rock waiting to be moved into the backyard.
Yep, that’s 9 tons of rock waiting to be moved into the backyard.

We have an amazing group of family and friends (really extended family as far as we are concerned) so most of our time is spent sharing food, laughs and stories with our “peeps” as my kids call them.

I’d really like this blog to be an interactive experience so comments, questions and requests are strongly encouraged. Please email me at thenommom@gmail.com, or comment here or on Facebook.

Life doesn’t come with an instruction manual, and I am just trying to do my best, but if my experience and any tips I learned along the way make your journey easier, I think that’s what life is all about. It really does take a village.
